Abstract:
Questions and Answers are among the more popular and prevalent uses of online networks. Online interactions (such as Q&A) are fascinating to watch, large and growing in scale, and enigmatic in function. How and why do they "work"? What are some "mechanism design" considerations?
This talk will report on several studies of online Q&A settings, in which "Wisdom of Crowds" is supposedly mined. Different methods, ranging from experimental settings, through large scale data mining, to crawlers, are employed to investigate the behavior and design of individuals and communities in Q&A settings.
